Osteo-K contains a 45 mg of MK4^®, also called menaquinone-4 and menatetrenone, calcium and vitamin D. MK4 is a form of natural Vitamin K2. As a nutrient, MK4 has many positive effects on the body. Research on MK4 (45 mg/day) show that it builds stronger bones and promotes healthy blood production in people with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Bone Support and Fracture Reduction: The Archives of Internal Medicine confirms that 45 mg of MK4 daily can decrease the risk of vertebral fractures by 60%, hip fractures by 71% and all nonvertebral fractures by 81% (Cockayne S et al. Arch Intern Med. 2006;166(12):1256-1261).

Cancer Support: The US FDA reviewed the research on MK4 (45 mg/day) for people with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The FDA concluded that MK4 has the potential to treat these diseases, and awarded Dr. Neustadt’s company, NBI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Orphan Drug Designation for MK4 for AML and MDS. As a dietary supplement, MK4 is not approved as a medication to diagnose, treat, prevent or cure any disease, but it can be taken as a dietary supplement to support healthy cell function.

SAFETY: Clinical trials published in medical journals document more than 7,000 people taking 45 mg daily (and higher doses) of MK4 for up to eight years without any serious side effects. The US Institutes of Medicine (IOM) states that natural vitamin K, which includes MK4, has no known “tolerable upper limit,” which means it’s considered safe even in doses much higher than that found in Osteo-K and Osteo-K Minis.

CAUTION: People taking the anticoagulant medication warfarin (Coumadin) should not take this product since vitamin K interferes with this medication.
